THE KILLER star Michael Fassbender is in negotiations to star in THE DEPARTMENT, an espionage thriller series executive produced by George Clooney. Set to start shooting in London this spring, the film is based on THE BUREAU, the hit French spy show created, directed and produced by Eric Rochant. Known for his acclaimed performances in INGLORIOUS BASTERDS and 12 YEARS A SLAVE, Fassbender has been named the most successful Irish actor of 2024. The accolade is a testament to Fassbender’s compelling filmography, award-winning roles, and substantial influence on social media.

SMALL TOWN, BIG STORY preview

In a new SMALL TOWN, BIG STORY preview, details are emerging about BRIDEMAIDS‘ star Chris O’Dowd’s new tv series. Filmed in the Emerald Isle, it is set in the fictional yet completely quintessential Irish town of Drumbán and stars a few familiar faces. Paddy Considine, best known for his role as Viserys I Targaryen in HOUSE OF DRAGON, and Christina Hendricks, who plays Joan Holloway in MAD MEN, star in leading roles in the series. SMALL TOWN, BIG STORY launches on Sky Max and NOW in Autumn. No official release date has been announced as of yet, but we’ll keep you posted!

Gleeson was back on THE LATE LATE SHOW on Friday night and Kielty was keen to ask him about what he made of Cillian Murphy’s chances of nagging the Oscar for his performance in OPPENHEIMER next month. The Irish actor and director was on the show to promote his new documentary BRENDAN GLEESON’S FAREWELL TO HUGHES’S which will have its premiere at the Irish Film Institute on Friday, March 1 as part of the Dublin International Film Festival (DIFF).

RTÉ’s hit crime drama KIN has begun airing on the BBC following the show’s huge success in Ireland. Written and created by Peter McKenna and co-created by Ciarán Donnelly, Kin follows a war between a small crime family and a huge international cartel, which is sparked by the murder of a young boy, and stars Ciarán Hinds, Aiden Gillen, and Charlie Cox. The series has clocked up more than four million lifetime streams in Ireland, with the second season averaging a 40 per cent audience share in its Sunday-night slot, and its finale becoming the most-viewed programme of the year, outside of sport.

Irish star Domhnall Gleeson leads the cast of ALICE AND JACK, a 6-part series premieres March 17 at 10/9c on PBS air, PBS.org, the PBS App and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel. Created and written by Victor Levin (MAD ABOUT YOU, MAD MEN), the series features Andrea Riseborough and Gleeson as the titular characters in what distributor Fremantle described as a “love story for the ages.” The synopsis for the series adds when they first meet they’re bound by a connection so powerful it seems nothing can break it, but will their path lead them to a place of happiness and togetherness? Or will life and their own emotional complexities get in the way.
