Top Boy

TOP BOY, the popular UK crime drama written by Northern Ireland’s Ronan Bennett, won big at the BAFTA TV awards this week. The award-winning series, which follows the lives of two drug dealers on a Hackney estate, first aired on Channel 4 in 2011 but was later revived by streaming service Netflix. The latest series of the popular drama series featured a surprise cameo from Oscar-nominated Irish actor Barry Keoghan (BANSHEES OF INISHERIN, SALTBURN), who plays an Irish gangster prone to committing brutal acts of violence.

BRIDGERTON‘s Season 3 release will make history on Netflix when it arrives on Thursday, May 16. The upcoming third season of the beloved romance series will be the first of the franchise to be released in two parts, with only the first four episodes coming on Thursday, May 16. Following up the first four episodes will be a second half, coming a month later on June 13.

GOOD GRIEF star Ruth Negga will appear alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the upcoming Apple TV+ show, PRESUMED INNOCENT. A trailer for the show has been released – the crime series is based on the eponymous 1987 New York Times bestselling novel by Scott Turow and tells the story of a prosecutor suspected of the murder of one of his colleagues. The series will premiere June 12th.

Season Two of Chris O’Dowd‘s hit tv show THE BIG DOOR PRIZE is now streaming on Apple TV+. Based on a 2020 novel of the same name by M.O. Walsh and it is set in a small where a mysterious MORPHO machine suddenly appears in a supermarket that tells the residents of the town their true potential. Season 2 is ramping things up with more drama and human moments while dealing with the consequences of the decisions that the residents took because of the machine.

BBC produced Troubles-era documentary ONCE UPON A TIME IN NORTHERN IRELAND has snaffled up two gongs at last night’s BAFTAS award ceremony. The 2023 miniseries was directed by James Bluemel and Northern Irish Sian McIlwaineas as a follow-up to Bluemel’s 2020 series ONCE UPON A TIME IN NORTHERN IRAQ. The series consists of five episodes that feature interviews with members of Republican and Loyalist paramilitaries, members of the British Army who served in Northern Ireland, along with others caught up in the conflict.

Conan O’Brien on TG4

Irish American television host Conan O’Brien will make his Irish TV drama debut on TG4’s ROS NA RUN on Tuesday 30 April – and the show will feature in O’Brien’s HBO travel series this week. He called into the fictional County Galway village while filming his own travel show for HBO Max, CONAN O’BRIEN MUST GO, which sees him taking a dive into the cultural delights of nations such as Norway, Thailand and Argentina. But it’s the Ireland episode, released earlier in April, which could be the most personal.

Gleeson set for THE OFFICE reboot

Variety has confirmed with sources that Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore have been cast in a new iteration of THE OFFICE, currently in development at Universal Television.  Details about the project are being kept confidential as producers, including series creator Greg Daniels, want to ensure the concept is right before finalizing a network. While Peacock remains the exclusive streaming home for the original THE OFFICE, the new iteration has high expectations. Gleeson has recently starred in shows such as ALICE AND JACK and THE PATIENT.
