Gleeson to open Boyle Arts Festival

This year’s Boyle Arts Festival and Visual Art Exhibition will be officially opened by Academy Award nominated actor Brendan Gleeson in King House on Thursday, July 20. Brendan, who has a keen interest in visual art, Irish music and folklore has played leading roles in films like THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN, CALVARY and IN BRUGES. The exhibition will feature close to 100 works from artists across Ireland. Largely focused on painting, the exhibition includes sculptural works by Eileen McDonagh, Cathy Carman, Kate Oram and Martin Lyttle.

Gleeson in A GREYHOUND OF A GIRL

Oscar nominee Brendan Gleeson and BAD SISTERS creator Sharon Horgan have teamed up for a new animated film that is set for future Oscar glory. Ireland is currently the talk of Hollywood, thanks to our record-breaking 14 Oscar nominations, including one for Gleeson himself in the Best Supporting actor category for his work in THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN. Following its premiere earlier in the month at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival, A GREYHOUND OF A GIRL will be hoping to follow the path of BANSHEES and THE QUIET GIRL at the 2024 awards.

Brendan Gleeson’s Skater Alter Ego

Irish actor Brandan Gleeson shares a hilarious video in advance of his SNL hosting debut. THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN actor followed the proclamation up with a demonstration of his skills. The promo video goes on to show Gleeson carelessly riding around the SNL set on a skateboard while landing kickflips and toppling over a staff member’s cue cards. It was a display worthy of Thrasher Magazine, or it would be if Gleeson didn’t trash the skate magazine soon after.

Gleeson to host SNL

Award-winning Irish actor Brendan Gleeson is to host the iconic US TV comedy show SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE next month. The 67-year-old Dublin-born star, who is an Emmy award winner, will make his SNL debut on October 8. The show, which will be the second of its 48th season, will see Gleeson joined by Willow, daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, who will make her debut as musical guest.

THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN first look

The new film from Oscar-winner Martin McDonagh finds Brendan Gleeson slamming his seaside cottage’s front door in Colin Farrell’s face. Why does he do this? Farrell’s character, a simple man by the name of Pádraic, proves increasingly desperate for an explanation; Gleeson’s Colm, supposedly a good friend, remains almost comically withholding. This dance continues for awhile, McDonagh reveling in the tension of the unknown. When Pádraic finally gets his answer, Colm’s delivery is punishing: “I just don’t like you no more.” And off we go.

Gleeson’s Emmy nomination

Brendan Gleeson, a native of Dublin, has been nominated in the Outstanding Actor In A Short Form Comedy Or Drama Series category for the 2022 Emmy Awards for his role as Scott in STATE OF THE UNION. This is Gleeson’s second Emmy nomination. In 2009, he was nominated – and won – in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries Or Movie for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in INTO THE STORM.
