McSweeney in WEST OF THE ROAD

DERRY GIRLS star Siobhán McSweeney has joined the cast of West the Road, a new comedy film shooting in Co. Kerry. The star-studded cast from the big and small screens are set to travel to the Kingdom to join production later this year. The feature follows the hilarious and heartfelt story of a group of women brought together by the death of a childhood friend. First-time feature writer-director Ita Fitzgerald is set to helm the exciting project. The London Irish director’s previous credits an award winning short film TMI, as well as BBC TV’s DOCTORS.

McGee lands BAFTA comedy award

DERRY GIRLS creator Lisa McGee has won a best writer gong for the hit Channel 4 programme at the Bafta Television Craft Awards. The show follows a group of teenagers as they grow up in her hometown of Derry during the Troubles. McGee affectionately calls them a group of ‘eejits’ with the show loosely based on her own experiences while studying at Thornhill College. DERRY GIRLS was also recently nominated for most memorable moment at the Bafta TV awards which will take place on May 14. The annual Bafta TV craft awards celebrates the very best behind-the-scenes television talent of 2022.

Graham Norton is set to work in Ireland for the first time in many years, while also returning to his stand-up comedy roots as the new presenter for Prime Video’s first Irish original series, LOL: LAST ONE LAUGHING IRELAND. The Bandon native and award-winning BBC chat show host is also the author of four novels, and regularly spends his summer months at his home in Ahakista, having married Scottish film-maker Jonothan McLeod at Bantry House last summer. The six-part comedy format will be filmed this spring in Dublin and will launch exclusively on Prime Video worldwide next year.

SHERLOCK alum Andrew Scott is among the latest stars to join Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx’s upcoming Netflix movie BACK IN ACTION. According to Deadline, Scott will be joining the project alongside his FLEABAG co-star Jamie Demetriou, who played Bus Rodent on the acclaimed comedy-drama series. Scott is best known for his role as Jim Moriarty in the BBC series SHERLOCK, for which he won a BAFTA.
