Ronan’s THE OUTRUN for Berlin
Saoirse Ronan’s latest project, THE OUTRUN, will have a special Panorama screening at next year’s Berlin Film Festival. The drama is adapted from Amy Liptrot’s best-selling memoir about a recovering alcoholic — played by four-time Oscar nominee Ronan — who returns to her home on the windswept wilderness of Scotland’s Orkney Islands. THE OUTRUN is among the first 11 titles picked by Panorama for its 2024 lineup.
Ronan in BAD APPLES
The Irish actress is set to star in the satirical comedy-thriller BAD APPLES for Jonatan Etzler, the director of the Swedish film ONE MORE TIME. The film, which is an adaption of Rasmus Lindgren’s debut novel De Oönskade, tells the story of Maria (Ronan), a primary school teacher doing her best to inspire a class of 10-year-olds but is unable to because of one unruly and chaotic student.
FOE review
After providing the raw fodder for Charlie Kaufman’s characteristically cryptic I’M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS, Canadian novelist Iain Reid serves up more brain-bender material in Garth Davis’ FOE. Anchored by emotionally raw performances from Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal, with Aaron Pierre as a stranger bringing equal parts seductive charm and understated menace, this brooding psychological sci-fi about a dying planet and a floundering marriage.
Mescal and Ronan in FOE
Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan face a dangerous future in FOE. Mescal and Ronan portray Junior and Henrietta, a married couple living in a rural farmhouse 40 or so years into the future. The vast majority of the film takes place in their home and stays with them through an unpredictable, tragic journey, sprinkled with glimmers of hope and punctuated by a reveal that compels a rewatch. Amazon Studios will release FOE in theaters on October 6.
